The Last Love of Narcissus is an interactive opera for young audiences after a play by contemporary Belarusian playwright Nikolay Rudkovski. It reflects on outcomes of contemporary forms of narcissism created by the present-day reality of portable devices and social media. Digital technology enables us to replicate countless images of ourselves without a necessity to diverge our look to anyone who is different from us. But what happens to human relationships, society, and the human nature in general in this environment of complete self-immersion? Can we exist as a society if we manage to eliminate the other completely? These are the questions that creators of the opera, Norwegian composer Marcus Paus and Lithuanian librettist Aiste Ptakauske, ask in their new piece. The world premiere of this opera is planned at the Oslo Opera Festival.
